  Friendship Ministries provides 1) a comprehensive set of religious education materials designed specifically for people with cognitive impairments, and 2) an extensive consulting services in helping churches from various denominations start Bible study programs for both youth and adults with cognitive impairments. Since its inception, Friendship Ministries has helped more than 800 churches (from 40+ denominations) to start such programs.

July 18-21 at Bowie State University
Deadline for applications is February 28, 2006
High school students entering their junior and senior years can apply for this year's Youth Leadership Forum, which provides a unique opportunity for young people with disabilities to experience an intensive forum emphasizing leadership, independence and personal and career goal setting.
Participants will:
-develop personal leadership plans and learn about leadership principles; -interact with successful role models;
-attend a mentors' luncheon and meeting with Maryland government officials;
-visit an exhibit of assistive technology;
-find out about resources to help them achieve their goals.

blue arrow The Youth Empowerment (YEA) Training/Pilot Sites
 

The Youth Empowerment Alliance Project (YEA), which is a project of the
MD Developmental Disabilities Council, is looking for PILOT SITES to
conduct training sessions on Independence and Leadership Skill for youth
and young adults with disabilities, between the ages of 14 - 23.
YEA has developed a training series which includes four modules, each
module consist of 10 - 14 hour long lessons. We are looking for sites to
pilot one or more of the modules in their community. The modules are:
- Self-advocacy/Self-determination
- Employment
- Community Resources
- Student-led IEPs
The series is designed to be a peer to peer training opportunity for
youth and young adults with disabilities. The training cadre will
consist of three people, a youth with a disability, a youth without a
disability, and a professional. The YEA project has funding to pay a
stipend to each member of the training cadre and support for the training
sessions.

blue arrow The Youth Empowerment (YEA) mini-grants
  The Youth Empowerment (YEA), a project of the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council, will award mini-grants, of up to $5,000, to groups, organizations, and leadership programs that serve youth and/or young adults to include youth and young people with developmental disabilities in their programs. Is there a youth group or leadership program in your community that, teens or young adults with developmental disabilities would like to be involved with? Does the group or program need some training, resources, or support to increase their capacity to include youth or young adults with developmental disabilities? If so, make them aware of the YEA’s "Inclusion Grant Opportunity."
